Compuesto verde (STEPMOTHERNATURE_series)
Le vendredi 30 juin 2006, avait lieu à Bogotá le vernissage de "The Day of Fruits & Black Clouds”, une exposition qui ouvrait le projet STEPMOTHERNATURE_series. Elle se tenait dans un espace indépendant appelé El Bodegon (Magasin/Nature morte), hors du circuit artistique institutionnel, et ne durait qu’un jour. Ce lieu est situé là où la ville laisse place à l’installation spontanée de maison par les pauvres : les favelas.
Ce projet tentait d’articuler la temporalité de l’événement – seulement quelques heures – et le voisinage du lieu d’exposition, en introduisant dans cette conjonction des messages relatifs à la consommation de fruits et à la question de ses origines naturelles. L’idée générale était de recréer, d’une façon directe, la notion ordinaire de nature morte (l’artiste utilise ici "dead nature” plutôt que "still life”)
L’idée que je développe pour Brétigny se centralise sur des fruits placés dans l’environnement du centre d’art tel que le jardin, les espace mitoyens (comme la médiathèque) et peut-être l’Edutainer. Les visiteurs pourront prendre les fruits et les apporter à un comptoir où ils seront pressés ou mangés tel quel, selon les préférences. L’événement sera similaire à celui de Bogotá, avec comme différence qu’à Bogotá l’espace d’exposition était vide, donc je devais construire une scène qui suggérait un marché populaire.
Sur chaque fruit est fixé un autocollant avec une phrase brève. L’autocollant est une réminiscence de celui qui mentionne les marques et qui ornent la plupart des produits dans les supermarchés. Les phrases confronteront les spectateurs à des références de situations et de mini-histoires qui touchent notre compréhension de la nature. Les fruits et les phrases constituent une leçon conflictuelle mais fondamentale : la nature dénaturalisée, disparaissant sous la domination frivole de l’anthropocentrisme.

GRINGO COME HOME (Gringo viens à la maison)
Les fruits seront placés directement sur l’architecture et le mobilier mais j’espère aussi construire de petit objets ou structures qui correspondent indirectement aux fruits et au lieu d’exposition.
Le titre de ce projet est : “Compuesto Verde”

Compuesto verde (STEPMOTHERNATURE_series)
On Friday the 30th of June, was the inauguration of "The Day of Fruits & Black Clouds”, an exposition which opens the project STEPMOTHERNATURE_series. The show took place in an independent space called El Bodegón (The Store/Still-Life), beyond the institutional art circuit, and lasted only one day. The exhibition space is situated where the city center gives way to spontaneous housing settlements of the poor — favelas.
The project attempts to articulate the temporality of the event — only a few hours — and the neighborhood of the exhibition space, introducing into the conjunction some messages related to the consumption of fruit and its questionable natural origin. The general idea was to recreate, in a direct fashion, the ordinary notion of dead nature.
The idea I’m developing for the Bretigny project focuses on fruits placed in the museum’s surroundings, such as the garden, nearby spaces (such as the bookstore), and perhaps The Edutainer. The visitors will be able to collect the fruits and take them to a counter where they can be juiced or eaten, according to preference. The event will be similar to the one in Bogota, with the difference that in Bogota the show space was empty, and so there I had to construct a scene which suggested a popular market.
Each fruit will have affixed to it a sticker with a brief phrase. The sticker is reminiscent of the fruit’s brandname stickers that adorn most produce in the supermarket. The phrase will confront the spectator with reference to the situations and mini-histories that touch on our understanding of nature. The fruits and the phrases constitute a conflicting but fundamental lesson : nature denaturalized, disappeared under the frivolous dominion of anthropocentrism.

The fruits will be placed directly upon the architecture and the available furniture, but I expect to also construct small objects or structures that correspond indirectly to the fruits and the installation space.
The title of this project is "Compuesto Verde” (Green Compound), of STEPMOTHERNATURE_series 2006.
