Clemens von Wedemeyer est né à Göttingen en Allemagne en
1974, il circule entre le monde du cinéma et celui de
l´art contemporain. Il réalise des films expérimentaux,
des courts métrages de fiction depuis 1998. Primée dans
de nombreux festivals internationaux sa filmographie
est représentative de cette nouvelle génération d’auteurs
qui parviennent à croiser les influences et les modes
d’écritures artistiques propre au cinéma, à la photographie,
à la vidéo ou à la performance.
L’artiste présentera une sélection de ses derniers films
et réalisera pendant la durée de son exposition un
nouveau court métrage qui fait référence à l’esquisse
de théâtre Catastrophe de Samuel Beckett. Ce nouveau
projet co-produit par le CAC Brétigny et la Biennale
de Berlin prend comme réalité la situation actuelle dans
les banlieues françaises. Le vernissage de l’exposition
sera organisé autour du casting des acteurs et des
figurants nécessaire à ce scénario. Le film finalisé
sera présenté le 24 mars à l’ouverture de la 4ème
biennale d’art contemporain de berlin 2006.

Clemens von Wedemeyer was born in Göttingen, Germany, in
1974. He has been making experimental films and short
fiction films since 1998, winning prizes in many
international festivals. He navigates between the worlds
of cinema and contemporary art, and his filmography
is representative of the new generation of auteurs whose
artistic influences and ways of writing originate in
photography and video as well as cinema and performance
art.
The artist will be presenting a selection of his latest
films, and for the duration
of the exhibition he will be filming a new short film
that refers to the idea of theatre in Samuel Beckett’s
‘Catastrophe’. This new project, co-produced by the
CAC Brétigny and the Berlin biennial, is based on the
reality of the current situation
in the French suburbs. The opening of the exhibition will
be organised around the casting of the actors and extras
to meet the demands of the screenplay. The finished film
will be presented on the 24 March 2006 at the opening of
the 4th Berlin biennial for contemporary art.

Clemens Von Wedemeyer is represented by the Jocelyn Wolff
gallery in Paris. This project is realised in partnership
with the Lycée Jean-Pierre Timbaud, Théâtre Brétigny, the
Médiathèque (Public Library) and Ciné 220 cinema in
Brétigny. The film is co-produced by the 4th berlin biennial
for contemporary art, a project by KW Institute
for Contemporary Art Berlin, funded by the German Federal
Cultural Foundation.
