As part of the CAC en sac residency, Charlotte Alves has been invited to design a public outreach installation for babies and toddlers. Using an array of fabrics, feathers, ceramic components and other tactile materials, she imagines a world inspired by bestiaries, populated by imaginary creatures: tiger-panthers, monsters or even disco prawns. By giving the children the opportunity to observe, touch, assemble and transform these elements, this installation provides a space for discovery, where the imaginary is constructed through sensitive and hands-on experience. Activated by the art centre’s public outreach team in nurseries, playgroups and drop-in childcare centres, it encourages sensory exploration, play and the invention of shared stories.
Charlotte Alves is a visual artist. Her work explores the links between landscape, material and imagination. Through work in sculpture, drawing and installation, she builds environments in which the forms seem to be in a state of perpetual metamorphosis. Rocks, sand, imprints, colours and textures become elements of a poetic language that oscillates between observation of the living world and fiction. Her artworks give rise to enigmatic entities and invite us to invent new ways of looking and recounting the world.
