Nolwenn Vuillier invites pupils from the Rolland Garros secondary school in Saint-Germain-lès-Arpajon to take a fresh look at the landscape around them. Together, they will observe the elements that constitute their daily environment: the school playground, pavements, the walls of an establishment… Like archaeologists from the future, the young people will sample the discreet traces left by the living. To mark the 200th anniversary of photography, the residency explores techniques associated with the reproducible image, from digital photograph to cyanotype, to create a science-fictional archive. This project forms part of the new residency format Summer Camp, which combines workshops in schools with an intensive creative stay at the Domaine départemental de Chamarande.
With focus placed on proactivity, the pupils think together about the periods of production and research in preparation for this fertile time of creation and inspiration. It is an opportunity to think as a group about what exists today and what may no longer exist tomorrow, against the backdrop of contemporary environmental concerns.
A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris and the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs de Paris, Nolwenn Vuillier is interested in the dichotomy between nature and culture. She produces works that range from installations to drawings to performance. With a strong focus on the question of presentation, she exhibits her work in both institutions and spaces outside of the art world, such as supermarkets, parks and websites.
